My favourite toys

I like to collect toys. I have a big cupboard full of toys. Some toys are new but most of them are old.  My favourite toy is the clockwork train. The oldest toy is the teddy bear. My mother brought it for my first birthday. I have a big crane and a tractor. The crane can lift the tractor right off the floor. I have a talking parrot working with batteries. When I talk to her she repeats the same.

I have a toy book rack. I keep all my books on the rack. I will never get rid of them and keep them very safe until I grow up.

Destiny

Feeble and in fatigue
A seven year old walked
Alone the dusty roads
Moaning and lamenting
His own misfortune

Everyone looked down upon him
Treating him like a dog
Kids laughed at his ragged clothes
And tear stained face

Head bent down, tears stinging
Went wandering down the road
Wondering when he will
Meet his destiny

A rainy day

It was very gloomy and dark but I had to go to school. I put a raincoat in my bag. Then we got ready to go to school. When we were going, raindrops started falling. Birds were flying to their nests. Trees were shaking. People were running everywhere. Suddenly it started to rain heavily. That made the traffic slow down.

The wind blew very strong. All at once the car got stuck in the mud. We waited for an hour. The rain stopped little by little. People helped to push the car and five minutes later we were at school.

I was a little wet and my teacher excused me. I wish that it would never rain like that again.

How I spent my holiday

During the holidays we planned to go on a trip to Anuradhapura. We went with one of our friends. We left home early in the morning and reached there at about 11a.m. First we visited the Sri Maha Bodhiya.

My dad explained to me how the sapling of the Bo tree was brought to Sri Lanka. After we had lunch, we visited the other religious places.

In the evening, we left the city and came to Colombo. We enjoyed the trip very much and we hope to visit there again.

My favourite sport

My favourite sport is cricket. It first originated in England. It is a game which is played with bats and balls. It is similar to baseball. This game is played with two teams. Each team should have eleven players.

My country which is Sri Lanka is popular because of the game cricket. My favourite cricketer is Nuwan Kulasekara. He is the world’s fifth T20 bowler and the world sixth ODI bowler.

I really love cricket.

A trip to the seaside

My most recent visit to the seaside was to Nilaweli Beach which is on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. We went there on a tour with some of my good friends and their families. I was so excited and packed all of my tools, such as buckets, spades and shovels – not to mention snacks – in case I got hungry.

It was quite a long journey from our home to Trincomalee, which took us about 10 – 12 hours with occasional stops here and there.

As we arrived on the beach, I looked impatiently through the shutters of the vehicle to see what this beach, spoken of By many, looked like. There were many other little children and lots of grownups too – they seemed to be having a great time on the beach.

I was overwhelmed and yet a little frightened, to be in front of a beautiful but a pretty rough sea. The sea water that I used to build a sandcastle was very cool and I observed that unless we used just the right amount of water, the sandcastle would collapse in a heap. I collected plenty of seashells, a bucketful to be precise, to use in my various handcrafts.

I simply adore beaches and hope to visit many more with my loving friends and our families during the school holidays.
