An incident where a SriLankan Airline aircraft was damaged while landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last week is being probed, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman Rohan Daluwatte said. He said initial investigations indicated that a pilot error caused the accident. The aircraft was damaged in the rear-end area and has been grounded for repairs.

Retd. Gen. Daluwatte said as part of the investigation the flight readings would be sent to Singapore or France to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the BIA was put on alert on Friday after another SriLankan Airline flight took off from Abu Dhabi where debris was found on the runway.

The SriLankan Airline flight had taken off from Abu Dhabi and the authorities there alerted the BIA fearing there could be a puncture on landing.  However, the flight landed without any problem, a spokesman for the Airline said.
