The next meeting of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) was advanced by 14 days, after members wanted it reconvened at the earliest, to consider two changes to the 13th Amendment previously approved by Cabinet, Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena said.

The meeting will now take place on August 6 instead of August 21, he said. “At Friday’s meeting, I took up the position that we should discuss the two proposed changes to the 13th Amendment within the PSC, because they have already been approved by Cabinet,” he said.
“It remains to be seen what the PSC will recommend,” Minister Gunawardena said when asked whether the changes will be implemented. Interestingly, 17 out of the Committee’s 19 members are in the Cabinet that approved the changes.
