My hobby

My hobby is collecting stamps. When I was four years old, I started collecting stamps. On my fifth birthday, my uncle presented me with a stamp album. I was very happy when I saw the stamp album. From that day, I used to put all my collected stamps into my new album.

I collect different stamps from different countries. It is a very interesting hobby.

The job I like most

There are many jobs I like most. Out of them I have a special job that I like the most. It is to be a scientist. There are various kinds of scientists; zoologists, kepla zoologists, astronomers and botanists are some of them. But I like to be an astronomer. An astronomer is a person who studies and finds new things about stars, the sun and the planets.

I think it is an interesting job. My hobby is also reading about stars, planets and other space objects. My hero is Sir Arthur C. Clarke.
He told many things about the stars, planets and outer space. He wrote many books about them. I read those books with great curiosity.

Even now my school, Nalanda College has produced a worldwide known scientist. He is Dr. Sarath Gunapala. I also like to follow him and join NASA. Then I will be able to bring fame to my country and also fulfill my ambition.

Friendship

We can’t live alone in the world. Everybody needs a friend. Friendship is an affection that one person has for another.  In our life we meet different friends. They can be our school friends, friends from the neighbourhood or from religious institutions. Friendship plays an important role in a person’s life. Friends encourage us when we are sad and never leave us when we
have troubles. They help you in many ways.

It is hard to find a true friend. Therefore we must try to keep relationships safe. We must have a mutual understanding and we must respect each other. Then our friendships will be nourished automatically.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed”, is a famous saying in our society. We can’t learn the meaning of it in school. We have to find it out ourselves.

My school sportsmeet

A special event in our school calendar which is the sportsmeet, was held on April 24, 2013 at the Havelock Grounds.  The atmosphere was filled with excitement. This wonderful day started at 8.30 a.m., with the welcome speech and the school song. The chief guest was
Mrs. Yasmin Zarook. All the house tents namely; Cithreen, Lulu, Marjan and Yaqoouth were richly decorated.

The first events of the day were the track events. The members of all the houses cheered the participants of the 100m, 200m and relays till the finish line. The class events of the junior school followed. Next were the skipping and sack races and after a refreshment break, the relays of the senior school followed which brought much entertainment.

Then the colourful drill display by the juniors took place. Then came the teachers’, prefects and old girls’ races. The last event was
the marchpast.

Speeches were made by the principal and the chief guest. This wonderful day came to an end with Cithreen House coming victorius and Marjan as the runners up. Though my house (Lulu) came third, I had a fun time, in spite of the heat, which would be memorable.

My Athamma

She is my mother’s mother. I call her Athamma. She is the sixth in a family of seven girls. Athamma is very religious. She goes to the temple everyday and observes sil on poya days. Athamma is very fond of my brother and me. I love to listen to the interesting stories she tells me. She speaks of Seeya always and says he was very good.

I feel very sad I was not able to see my Seeya. Dear Athamma, I wish you good health and long life. May all our Devas guide and bless you always.
