Our annual school sportsmeet

St. Bridget’s Convent Primary Sportsmeet was held on February 28, at the school grounds. The chief guest was Rev Sr. Renuka Silva.
We had lots of fun that day. I participated in the shuttle relay (under 8) and our Griaux House team won the event. There was a talent show and everybody enjoyed it. The four houses of our school are Borgia, Griaux, Coudert and Melizan. Our house Griaux became second.

The following day was a holiday for us to rest. I am waiting eagerly till next year for this great day.

Our annual school trip

Our annual school trip was a visit to Haputale and Bandarawela. Students from Grade Six upwards participated. We started from school in two vehicles, accompanied by staff members.

Our first stop was at Ratnapura. We had refreshing drinks at Sapphire Hotel and next went to Non-Pereal Estate at Belihuloya. Before lunch we had a dip in a stream. I enjoyed myself in the cool water. It was fun swimming and splashing water on my friends. Our lifeguard was with us for safety.

We arrived at Adisham around 5pm and had tea. My friends Jaisan and Basura and I got Room VI. Adisham is a beautiful mansion built with blocks of granite rocks. It was built like a British castle by its founder Sir Thomas Lister Villiers, a planter manager from the Glenanore Estate. Now it belongs to the Benedictine monks and is a monastery. There is a beautiful garden with flowering bushes, roses and cherry tomatoes. There are also apple and peach trees. I bought strawberry jam for myself, marmalade for my father and lime pickle for my mother from the Adisham shop.

We had a campfire before dinner. The whole place was covered by a thick mist. It was awesome. The next morning we had breakfast and we were divided into two groups. Our group went to see the Thangamalai Bird Sanctuary. There was a steep climb and the bigger children climbed to the top but we went only half way. We gathered acorns, moss and ferns. We saw a fantastic view from the hill. There were tea estates and pine forests.

I also picked some oranges from which marmalade is made.  We left Adisham after a tasty lunch to return to school after a brief stop at Ranapura for evening tea. This was a wonderful trip of which we carried lovely memories.

My favourite bird

My favourite bird is a Scarlet Macaw. It is only found in America and in some rainforests. Macaws are red, green and blue. They eat peanuts. They also live on top of mountains. Macaws protect themselves from danger by pecking. Their young ones are called baby macaws.

My only wish for my 10th birthday is to get a macaw.
