A run-down Sri Lankan tea factory that was on the verge of collapse and closure in 2009, recovered under a new owner and recorded a top price at the Colombo tea auction last week.

A line of Pekoe Dust grade from Brombil Tea Factory equalled an all time record price of Rs. 645 per kg at the February 6th sale.
When businessman Aruna Silva purchased the newly-built ‘Brombil’ Tea Factory which produced CTC teas in 2009 it was run down and almost closing. Mr Silva owns Ever Green Group which has seven tea factories in the Galle district.

According to officials, the factory today is one of the largest single producers of Low Grown Orthodox and CTC Tea, having sold a total of 2.9 million kg of tea in 2012.

The recent line of tea which fetched a record price was purchased by Millennium Tea (Pvt) Ltd and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers (Pvt) Ltd.
