Gamini Senerath, Chief of Presidential Staff, was appointed as the new Chairman of People’s Bank by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday,

Mr. Senarath earlier served as Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, resigning in January 2012.

He is currently Chairman of state-owned Litro Gas and Sinolanka Hotels and Spa Ltd, which owns the Hyatt hotel complex. He served as Deputy Controller of Immigration and Emigration and Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. Mr. Senerath has an honours degree from the Kelaniya University and holds a post graduate degree in Computer Science.
