Another honour for veteran Sybil

Internationally-acclaimed Sri Lankan children’s author Sybil Wettasinghe adds another accolade to her list with the news that she has been awarded the Nikkei Asia Prize for Culture for 2012. “Please allow me to say what a true privilege to present you with the 17th Nikkei Asia Prize for Culture in recognition of your magnificent contribution to enrich people’s lives in the region,” said a senior official of Nikkei Inc., the publisher of Japan’s leading newspaper in business and culture, in the letter informing Sybil of the award.

First presented in 1996, the Nikkei prizes are awarded annually in three categories- Regional growth, Science and Technology and Culture. The presentation ceremony will be held in Tokyo on May 23.
