Wanna Dance?

It was a night of excitement, colour and energy filled dances as DanceFest 2012 got underway in Colombo recently.

Organized   by the newly formed Lanka Dance Sport Council together with Footwork Events, the dancers were judged in three categories, namely Ballroom, Latin American and Salsa dancing.  Adding more excitement to the event were the Malaysian Amateur Latin and Ballroom Dance Champions Johnston Lim and Nicole Tan who performed five dances of each form and kept the audience enthralled with their performance.

More than 150 competitors from leading Dance Schools took part in the event with junior couples between the ages of 12 and 16 t among the competitors.  A senior’s category too was held after many years.

Dharshana Wijesooriya, Founder and President of the Lanka Dance Sport Council said that with the commencement of the Council,   more measures will be taken to popularize dance with many events to attract dance lovers.

These will include events such as workshops and a monthly sundown dance at the 80 Club in Colombo, he said.  The Council already has over 250 members and Dharshana encourages all those interested in dance to become members.  Details can be obtained by calling 0777- 777111
