Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Plea of a croc

By Thinura Wijeratne (12 years), Trinity College, Kandy

I swim in azure waters as a frenzy begins
So vile, beyond my wildest dreams,
Snapping my jaws lunge for the human,
Soon I am labelled the
monstrous croc.

My appearance makes me grotesque,
Despite my heart so caring and warm (I guess),
I only claim my territory and it’s a well known fact,
Can’t the ‘superior humans’ realise a thing petty as that?

They call me lethal, a murderer and foul one,
Can’t they take precautions and eradicate their ignorance?
Use the river carefully and ease my worries,
I believe humans are wicked and brutal.

Their clever brains create bloodlust,
Hurt or slaughter me creating setbacks,
I only protect my family and my dear life,
Do you still believe my anger is biased?
