Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Sinhala and Tamil New Year

By Sachith Keragala, Trinity College, Kandy

The sun that brightens our lives,
Moves from Pisces to Aries,
The Sinhala and Tamil
New Year arrives,
Along with the sweet
cuckoo cries.

The Erabadu flowers bloom,
While the country is
preparing,
Firecrackers go boom,
With love and joy
abounding.

Everywhere we hear the sound,
Of New Year games being played all around,
And finally, we are able,
To taste the kevum and kokis on the table.

Celebrations far and wide,
Happiness on every side,
The old year gone,
The New Year born,
A whole New Year to adorn.
