Abbas special guest for New Year

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will be in Sri Lanka next week as President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s guest during the National New Year season.

Mr. Abbas will be in Sri Lanka from April 15 to 17 after he ends his visit to Japan, Palestinian Ambassador Anwar Agha said. A presidential banquet in honour of the visiting leader will be held on April 16.

At the recently concluded session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Sri Lanka spoke in favour of the Palestinians’ right to statehood. Mr. Abbas will also fly to the Maldives before he leaves for Palestine.
