Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Big match fever

By Thinura Wijeratne, Trinity College, Kandy

Fiery sixes go whizzing,
Past the wild, excited crowd,
Blending fun and games together,
Cheers erupt – joyous and loud.

Batsmen speed up along the pitch,
As fielders so alert tactfully reach,
The scarlet ball which decides it all,
As records are shattered,
celebration is all around.

Enmity morphs into
friendship and care,
Playing a game, fair and square,
Sportsmanship is created, shedding competition,
The crowd watches eagerly, gripping their seats in
tension.

The marvellous big match fever,
Is behind every nook and cranny,
Superb runs scored, terrific balls delivered,
It’s all about luck and flair
so uncanny.
