‘Hiru Dahasak Yata’

A story of lost and found

‘Hiru Dahasak Yata’ is a miniplay revolving around a young woman who faces many hardships in the midst of war and many other unexpected circumstances will be telecast every week day at 8.30 pm on TV Derana.

The script of the play was written and directed by Lakshman Pushpakumara, the miniplay is to be acted by Nilmini Tennakoon, Janaka Kumbukage, Chinthaka Kulatunge, Wilman Sirimanna J.R. Perera, Upali keerthisena, Miyuri Samarasinge, Samadara Ariyawansa, Dayasiri Hettiarchchi, Harry Winalasena, Rahal Bulathsinhala, Shriyani Mahawatte, Sanith Sathviru, Chaminda Wickramasinghe, Ajith Nishantha and Rajaratnam Kingsly.

‘Hiru Dahasak Yata’ takes the viewer on a victorious journey of a young woman who faces numerous hardships in life and ends up being a successful politician. Young Suba whose mother dies when she was young undergoes many hardships with her step mother who plots to get hold of the property, her mother had willed her by getting her married to an elderly person. But Suba is in love with Wickrama, a fisherman and they elope to settle in a remote village off Anuradhapura. Living without any parental support, the young couple undergoes severe hardships.

The stepmother who is worried that Suba will return to claim the property plots to murder them and hires a thug named “Kalu Aiya”. But Wickrama manages to overpower Kalu Aiyya who comes to shoot him. During the scuffle, Kalu Aiyya receives serious injuries. After this incident Wickrama and Suba leave Anuradhapura and settle down in Padaviya, a remote border village which regularly was affected by war. During this time Suba’s father dies of dementia and Suba and Wickrama attended the funeral.

In the height of civil war Padaviya comes under terrorist attack and Wickrema dies while Suba manages to escape by running to a nearby jungle. Young widowed Suba walking aimlessly comes across Rajeswari who is running away with her daughter. The firing of the terrorists kills Rajeswari and Suba takes over the little daughter. As the two of them walk in the jungle, they meet another child named Asanga whose parents too were killed during the war.

Suba makes her way to a nearby road and stops a passing by lorry and the lorry driver Ranaweera takes them and hands them over to a kind watcher of a coconut estate. Subsequently Suba with two kids come to Colombo. Ranaweera who finds that Suba and two kids have left the coconut estate goes in search of them but was unsuccessful.

In the meantime Suba’s husband Wickrama who was presumed killed by terrorists’ shooting, has recovered and comes in search of Suba. But he too is not successful. Will the two men ever be able to find Suba? What would her future be? What’s going to happen to the two kids who belong to different origins and who would think that their mother is Suba? All this would be solved with as ‘Hiru Dahasak Yata’ continues to be telecast.

Those of the technical staff are the assistant director of the miniplay, Wasantha Kumara, Nishantha Pradeep- camera and Chandana Liyanage-editor. The play ‘Hiru Dahasak Yata’ televised on Derana is presented by the chairman of TV Derana, Laksiri Wickramage.
