Thrilling movies in line

The year 2012 is to see a line of entertaining and thrilling Sri Lankan, Bollywood and Hollywood movies at the Savoy and the Liberty, the two theatres that are run by the EAP group. The Savoy cinema, one of the oldest and prominent theatres will screen ‘Super Six’, ‘Rankevita 2’, ‘Daruwane’ and ‘No Mark Ko Mark’.

The much awaited ‘Super Six’ is the maiden direction of young Udara Palliyaguruge and is a film about cricket and a group of youngsters with their dreams and aspirations. Set in the contemporary backdrop the passion for cricket is to decide their fate and future. Rivalry among the teams begins, not only on the pitch but outside it too. A multi million project, the film with a number of young and popular stars is set to be a novel experience to the Sri Lankan audience.

The second chapter of Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s children’s movie Ran Kevita is another much anticipated movie in recent time. Co-produced by Ranjith Jayasuriya, Dilman Jayaratne, Janitha Marasinghe and Udayakantha Warnasuriya, the movie is shot by using one of the latest technologies - a digital red camera.

In its Hollywood releases for the year 2012, EAP is to screen ‘Mirror Mirror’, ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Street Dance’, ‘Spider Man’, ‘Ice Age 4’ and ‘Journey 2’ and the Bollywood movie ‘Agent Vinod’ at Liberty cinema, Colombo.

‘Mirror Mirror’, a comedy fantasy movie based on ‘Snow White’’ by the Brothers Grimm is directed by Tarsem Singh and stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, and Sean Bean and its worldwide release will be on March 30.

‘The Hunger Games’ another upcoming sci-fi action drama directed by Gary Ross and based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins will be released at the Liberty Colombo. Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ an American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man. It is in the form of a film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’, American 3D science fiction adventure film directed by Brad Peyton and the sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán, and Kristin Davis.

‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’ an entertaining family movie which is slated to be released in July
will serve as a follow-up to 2009 ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’, which sees Manny, Diego and other members of their gang embarking on a mission to rescue Sid from a tropical lost world inhabited by dinosaurs beneath the ice.

The Hindi movie ‘Agent Vinod’, in the list for Liberty is an action spy film written and directed by Sriram Raghavan. The film, produced by Saif Ali Khan under his banner of Illuminati Films, features the actor in the title role alongside Kareena Kapoor.
