Retroactive: New platform for Lankan musicians

A new musical initiative ‘Retroactive’ will be held its monthly session at the The Warehouse Project in Maradana on Sunday, 26 February from 4.00pm.

‘Retroactive’ is initiates to provide a common platform for English musicians in the country to boost the local English music scene. The theme of the event is Retro as you can tell by the name!

The Warehouse Project, a local community outreach programme, has joined forces with M Entertainment to provide a platform for English-speaking musicians to cover classic songs from the 70s and 80s on the last Saturday of every month.

Kirby de Lanerolle, founder of The Warehouse Project said: “In Sri Lanka, much of our popular music has been imported from the UK or the US, but what Retroactive hopes to showcase is the wealth of talent we have right here on our doorsteps.

There is a growing number of young, creative individuals living in Colombo and the surrounding areas that we believe have the potential to compete on the world’s stage and should be given access to the resources they need to do so.”

‘In general it’s a family event where we invite parents to bring their kids along too as there will be activities for them (popcorn, candy floss, bouncer, face painting etc)’ he added. The tag line of this month’s event is ‘Take a Breather’ as busy Colombo folks need a place of relaxation and entertainment on a Sunday evening before the hectic working week starts.

The artistes for the next Retroactive will be ‘Wildfire’, ‘In Control’ , ‘The WOW’ Band, CC’, ‘Chinthika’and Druvi de Silva Also Dr. J is Retroactive’s very own resident DJ and he will be spinning all time favourite retro music.
