Prof. Jayasinghe wins "Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Research - 2010"

Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe-Mudalige, Professor of Agribusiness Management of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (WUSL) has been awarded the "Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Research - 2010" by the National Science & Technology Commission (NASTEC) of the Ministry of Science & Research of Sri Lanka.

This is awarded annually on a competitive basis to a young scientist in Sri Lanka who has contributed to the fields of science and technology in numerous ways. Prof. Jayasinghe said he was promoted to the post of Professor by merit in July 2009 at the age of 42 and is the youngest Chair Professor in the national university system at present.

He obtained his B.Sc. (Agriculture) in 1994 from the University of Peradeniya securing a First Class Honors from the Faculty of Agriculture. This was followed by a M.Sc. (Agric. Econ) degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya in 1997, and followed by other qualifications and credentials.

Currently, he holds several key positions at the national level, including the Editor / Council Member / Chairman - Research & Publication Committee of the Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IPESL); the President of the "Young Scientists Forum" (YSF) of the National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka (NASTEC); and National Task Force Member of the Food Security Thematic Research Program of the National Research Foundation (NSF).
