December holidays By Zeenath Rameez (11 years),
Ilma Int. Girls’ School For as long as I can remember, I have always spent every December holiday at my grandmother’s house in Sammanthurai. It is a very small town and it takes a long tiring
journey to get there. But it is a wonderful place to go to.
We spend about a week at my grandmother’s place and then go
visiting. The best part of the holidays are the visits to the paddy-fields. It is nice to forget that I am a city girl, wear old clothes and go tramping through the muddy fields, looking for birds and picking wild flowers. We always watch out for snakes though. Sometimes we have picnics just like in books. My grandmother’s place is very ancient and crumbly and sometimes the roof leaks. I used to go exploring in the attic and I found amazing things in there. There were old books, dusty old newspapers and some old bottles that had belonged to my great
grandfather. I have taken all these home. The December holidays simply whizz by, but I enjoy them all the same.
My mother By Sanuka B. Wasala (6 years) Vidura College The word ‘mother’ is the most
                        beautiful word in the world.
My mother gets up early in the morning and makes tea for us. Then she prepares our breakfast. She works hard throughout the day. But she works very happily.
She gives us everything we want. My mother protects us. She helps our education. She is pretty, kind and generous. Everyday we worship our mother. I love my mother very much. My bicycle By Thiseni Kristhorubadu
                        (9 years),
                        Musaeus College I have a
                        bicycle. It is
purple in colour. I got this bicycle from my uncle who lives in the USA. My bicycle has a tiny, shiny silver bell on the handles. I ride my bicycle around my house.
 Cycling is an interesting hobby.
 New Year By T. Rishikeshan

All over the world, people entered into a New Year. People
happily celebrated the New Year on January 1. I also celebrated it very
                        happily.
The day before the New Year, we cleaned our home and decorated it with lights. I lit
fireworks at 12pm. I enjoyed my new year very much. I sent many messages to my friends through the phone.
I went to the Kovil the next morning. I wore new clothes for the New Year. I ate many
delicious sweets. I also watched special
                        programmes on TV.
I enjoyed my New Year. Now I am preparing my books for school. Longing for School By Randhula Gajadheera

 December holidays pass by.
I feel it is so slow. How I wish that school would start. How I love to go to school. The teachers come, teach and go. Not only that, they give us homework, which I love to do. The periods pass by and the day is over. I think that holidays are
boring. To think there are only a few more days till the second of January is very exciting for me. Think of newly covered books, new pens and pencils ready in my pencil box. My bag is ready to be packed with all my stuff. Of the subjects that I learn, many are at interesting stages. The second term is going to come. A huge exam was over before the
holidays, but another will come when the second term finishes. I will do my lessons with my mother daily, show her my work and get her help. I think of coming home in my father’s car, early to bed, early to wake, going to school, what fun I have when answering my teacher’s questions first, 'very goods' and gold stars with plenty of good comments from my teachers. Please time, pass by soon,
I want to go to school!
