Maheshi Navodika Wimalachandra who is a grade 10 student of Vishaka Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Colombo, launched her maiden poetry book named “Sandawathiya Paayala” on 5th December, 2011 at Vishaka B.M.V. Auditorium.
The first book was presented to the Principal of Vishaka Balika M.V. Mrs. Sandamali Aviruppola. She has collected the poems and verses from grade six. The phenomenon of the nature has given her an enthusiasm to write her poems.
Maheshi was a brilliant student of Bandarawela Vishaka Balika Maha Vidyalaya who got through the grade 5 scholarship examination with 188 marks, and became third in the province. Her excellent results in the examination gave her an opportunity to enter Colombo Vishaka Balika M.V.
She is an all round student. She had won so many award and medals in several extracurricular activities. She has won the 1st place in the All Island “Daham Pasal- Paali speech and singing” competition in 2011.
She is also a girl guide of Vishaka B.M.V. She is a talented singer too. She participated in many competitions and emerged winner in several provincial and Island level.
“This is my maiden book and it is a sensation of the nature by a child’s vision. My humble request is to read this book to encourage me to write more in the future” is Maheshi’s motive. Her ambition is to be a significant citizen to the nation.
