Top Hollywood hits at Majestic Cineplex

With the state of the art cinema halls coming up with the multiple cinema complexes, Sri Lankan film lovers will have the opportunity to watch some of the much awaited top Hollywood movies in Colombo.
The year 2012 will be ushered in by a series of cinema productions imported by the Liberty Cinemas Limited and presented by Cinema Entertainment private Limited as they are released in the Majestic Cineplex, the latest multi-theatre cinema complex in the country.

Starting with ‘Puss in Boots’ 3D animation movie, a story on how the charming kitty came to be before we meet him in Shrek 2, the line up will be followed by a number of animations, family adventures and action thrillers throughout the new year.

Opening with computer-animated adventure film produced by DreamWorks Animation, directed by Chris Miller, director of Shrek the Third in 2007, the film stars Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis.

‘Madagascar-3’ is another entertaining animation movie to be screened during the year 2012.
Among the action movies, CEL will showcase Baltasar Kormákur’s action thriller film ‘Contraband’ which revolves around a former smuggler who heads for Panama to score millions of dollars in counterfeit bills in order to protect his brother-in-law from a drug lord. The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale and it is a remake of the Icelandic 2009 film Reykjavík-Rotterdam which Kormákur starred in.

Chris Farraday abandoned his life of crime long before, but after his brother-in-law, Andy, botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs, Chris is forced back into doing what he does best; running contraband. Chris must settle Andy's debt and things get heated up when Chris has only hours to reach the cash. Chris must use his rusty skills to navigate the treacherous criminal network of drug lords, cops, and hit men before his wife Kate, and their two sons become targets as well.

‘Safe House’ another action film which revolves around a young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge. Directed by Daniel Espinosa the film stars Denzil Washington, Ryan Reynolds and Robert Patrick

The romantic drama film ‘Big Miracle’ starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski is based on the 1989 book Freeing the Whales : How the Media Created the World's Greatest Non-Event by Tom Rose, which covers Operation Breakthrough, the 1988 international effort to rescue grey whales from being trapped in ice near Point Barrow, Alaska.

Directed by Ken Kwapis based on a screenplay by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler the film set in a small town in Alaska, a news reporter recruits his ex-girlfriend - a Greenpeace volunteer - on a campaign to save a family of grey whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.

Another action horror comedy ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’, a 3D movie directed by Tommy Wirkola is a continuation of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton have been cast in the titular roles,[3] while Famke Janssen has been cast as the leader of a coven of evil witches that they seek out to destroy.

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ directed by Rupert Sanders is yet another action adventure slated to be released at the Majestic cinema. Starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.
Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe who are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple will be back with ‘Madagascar 3’ released in 2012. This time the road takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a travelling circus, which they reinvent Madagascar style!

Paramount Pictures ‘G.I. Joe 2’ directed by Jon Chu comes following the success of box office hit ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. ‘47 Ronin’, an 18th century set story centred on a band of samurai who set out to avenge the death of their master, directed by Carl Rinsch will star Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada and Kô Shibasaki.

‘The Battleship’ science fiction naval war film based on the game of the same name is another film Sri Lankan moviegoers will be able enjoy at the Majestic Cineplex during this year. Directed by Peter Berg, the film stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Liam Neeson.

The film depicts an international naval fleet at Pearl Harbour engage in a dynamic and intense battle against an alien race known as "The Regents". The aliens come to planet Earth, on a mission to build a power source in the ocean. Upon their visit, they come in contact with the naval fleet.
