Habitat conscious fashion

The D’divas Designer Club, is the limited-edition design store on Cambridge Place where shoppers can pick up something stunning for the season.

“Our range has something for everyone. Whether it’s casual, office or evening wear you’re after, you’ll find it at D’divas,”says a spokeswoman for the label. What is striking about the range is its exclusivity and the great price that comes with it. D’divas designs are created and produced in an in-house studio; and while only about ten items are made from each garment, the price tags are those of general stores.

The team at D’divas has more than just a great sense of style to be proud of while they are also the chief funding arm of KumbukRiver, an internationally-awarded eco lodge in Buttala. Most people have seen pictures of the giant elephant-shaped hotel but very few know that KumbukRiver has been steadily aiding the development of the nearby village. Since the days of the war, the lodge has come to represent hope for the village folk.

The label’s mandate of ‘dress yourself and dress the habitat’ echoes this, as women are encouraged to be as conscious of the habitat as they are of the latest in the fashion world.

As diversified as the habitat it is devoted to protecting, the D’divas collection has been widening over the years. Walking in to the charming coffee-coloured house by the imposing Nuga tree on Cambridge Place, you’re faced with everything from that essential festive dress to the perfect outfit to wear to work on Monday. In addition, the D’divas team promises a very en vogue eatery on the same premises.

New happenings have been afoot at the store as they recently launched a new website, www.ddivas.lk - which includes almost the entire range in an easy-browsing forum. While the big tree by the shop keeps guard, visitors to No. 15A Cambridge Place Colombo 07 are promised a fashionable experience, irrespective of whether it’s high-street style or fine coffee you’re after!
