With the Royal College Union reaching 120 years, the Union together with Bathiya and Santhush are set to present – ‘Floreat’ - a musical experience unlike any other. Santhush of BNS fame via an email interview tells us about the details of the show.

What is the concept behind Floreat ?

Floreat is a word of Latin origin, and it means “Flourish”. Royal College is celebrating 175 years while the Royal College Union is celebrating the 120th Anniversary this year. The celebration will revolve around the Majestic Architecture of Royal College with a musical rendition that has never done before.

The concert will be a very creative production like ‘Yanni at Acropolis’. People will witness Modern Contemporary Music to Opera. Bathiya and Santhush together with the artistes of the region and the country will take center stage in front of the façade of Royal College.

Reeni Mansata Olga Sesnovkaya

Mahesh Denipitiya together with his orchestra will be directing music. BNS will sing Operatic music for the first time to a public audience together with the well renowned Russian Operatic Singer Olga Sesnovkaya.

What sort of music will the audience expect to hear ?

BNS will sing semi classical songs to modern Contemporary. Reeni Mansata from India, Olga Sesnovkaya from Russia – Opera, BNS will sing together with Olga Sesnovkaya – for the first time. Guest performances by Ashanthi, Randhir,Centigradz with Orchestra, Dushyanth, and Umaria, Mahesh Denipitiya will direct music with his Orchestra.

Any message to the BNS fans out there?

This will be the first time we will be singing with a Russian Artiste. Our vocal training during our early days with Mary Anne David was more focused on Classical and Operatic music. Thus we believe it’s time to experiment and we can handle a bit of Opera being Sri Lankan. Exploring the horizon of music is the greatest happiness and we Sri Lankan musicians need to explore these avenues with the world.
