A’pura bishop also to boycott state functions

As a mark of protest over the arrest of a sister attached to Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity Home in Rawatawatta, Anuradhapura’s Bishop Rt. Rev. Norbert Andradi has also decided to boycott state-organized Christmas functions in his diocese.

This follows the announcement on December 3 by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, that he would boycott state-organised Christmas functions as a mark of protest against the arrest of the nun and the false allegations planted in certain section of the media.

The Cardinal said he would boycott state events until the Government or the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) rectified the situation. Fr. Benedict Joseph, the director of social communications, said yesterday the Government or the NCPA had yet not responded to the Cardinal’s appeal and the Church was waiting for the response.
