Sujatha M.V. is an exemplary school. They insist most of the subjects on practical efforts rather than theory. The Agriculture Unit plays a major role in this sphere. They have organized a Mini Farm inside their school premises which is maintained by students.

The waste matters are utilized to produce Bio Gas and Fertilizers for their vegetable garden. The Bio gas produced is also utilized for the school canteen and the science laboratory. The income they get from their healthy vegetables is deposited to their school developments account. They are proud to say that they have got a balance of more than three hundred thousand rupees in that account.

The school was established as a Buddhist Girls school by Sir.Henry Kothalawela in 1913 with only 13 students. In 1963 the school was taken over by the government and Mr.D.S.Dissanayake was the first principal after the take over. The present principal Mrs. D.M. Seetha (SLPS 2 1) assumed her duties in 2009. Since then the devotion and dedication of the principal and the staff has built up the academic elevation and the prestige of the school. Sujitha M.V. has been moulding the characters of the students in the Uva Province into well behaved, disciplined students apart from educating them since 1913.

At present nearly 70 devoted and dedicated staff is providing quality education with some great achievements in the academic field. At present they are catering for more than 1200 students.

The school is well maintained and equipped with Computer units, a Science Laboratory, Library and a large playground. The students of Sujatha M.V. have shone in public examinations bringing in excellent results. This year 20 students of this school got through the grade 05 scholarships Examination while D.M.Kaveesha Rashmi was placed 3rd in Badulla District with 189 marks.

The school has maintained excellent academic records in G.C.E.(O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L) examinations and has produced many undergraduates from the Badulla District for local universities. In 2006 the G.C.E.(O/L) result was 47% but at present the hard working teachers have gradually improved their efforts up to 70%. The new Advanced Level classes started only in the Art steam and they have produced annually results to the rate of 70 - 88%.

Extra-curricular activities are given a prominent place at the school. The scouts and Girl Guides have been bringing in fame to the school since 2008. They are a great source and inspiration to the school. The school’s eastern dancing troops “Ananda Wannama” and the individual event “Thembili Paali” were placed 2nd at the All Island dancing competition in 2010. The Aesthetic and Literary societies have raked in medals for the school at provincial and national level.

The school garden won the provincial 1st place in the “Mihikatha Surakuma” competition. They have also been winning the productivity award consecutively since 2007. Sujatha M.V.’s voice echoes throughout the whole country. The school has fulfilled its duties for 98 years and is ready to do the same in the future, even if it has to face challenges. Undoubtedly the students of Sujatha Maha Vidyalaya will go beyond them.
