Spice Festival kicks off in Colombo

The World Spice Food Festival 2011 in Sri Lanka will offer the unique culinary expertise of the best master chefs participating at the event held from October 28- November 9 in Colombo.
The festival will provide an ideal opportunity for tourists on transit or holidaying in Sri Lanka to experience a variety of delectable cuisine from India, South America, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Italy, Vietnam, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Spain, Singapore, Arabia and Sri Lanka, a media release issued by Sri Lanka Tourism stated.

The launch of the event was held on October 26 at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel at 6.00pm with the highlight of the festival taking place along Greenpath from October 28 – 30, the release said. Greenpath will have a festive atmosphere with live music and cookery demonstrations, a Sri Lankan crab cooking competition and special cultural performances giving a truly unforgettable dining experience for the entire family.

Participating at this year’s event will be 13 top city hotels and five speciality restaurants with a nine-day fair displaying the chosen specialities of international cuisines in their individual establishments from October 31 – November 9.

A three star celebrity chef Bjorn Van Der Horst will be flown down from New York for the event to add much colour and vibrance while showcasing his world renowned culinary recipes.
