Anuradhapura Central secured a thrilling victory in the match played in the morning session, when chasing 66 runs for victory, they reached the target with one ball to spare. In fact Isipathana just gave away the match as they conceded 26 runs in the very first over which made things easy for the winners.

Royal Panadura who had the honour of recording the highest score in the main tournament in this session when they slammed 96 runs against Habarana Isuru MV whom they defeated by 23 runs ousted Ananda in a second round match played in the evening session.

Royal Panadura were helped by an unbeaten knock of 62 in 20 balls inclusive of eight boundaries and three sixes by Asanka Alwis which helped them to make a formidable 85 and they restricted the Anandians to 69.

Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa too put up a giant killing performance when they overcame the strong Prince of Wales by five wickets to advance to the second round which ultimately saw them advance to the pre-quarter finals.

Royal Colombo, S. Thomas' Mt Lavinia, Mahanama, Royal Polonnaruwa, Royal Panadura and Anuradhapura Central were the other teams to advance to the pre-quarter finals.

Meanwhile Sumana Balika BV Ratnapura put up a sterling performance in their semi final encounter against Gothami BV Borella when they amassed 97 and then restricted their opponents to 91. The specialty of their win is that the girls from Ratnapura who have been playing softball cricket for more than seven years are playing in a leather ball tournament for the first time and they showed that they are going to be a side to be reckoned with in women's cricket in the near future. Sumana Balika MV will now meet Vijaya Katupotha MV Chilaw in the final which is scheduled to be played in the afternoon today. The tournament organized by Old Wesleyites for the 19th time is sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd and is played for the Munchee Trophy. The tournament which began on Friday saw 36 teams in the fray which included two International schools and teams from remote areas in the island.

The tournament will come to an end today with the chief guest at the closing ceremonies being Ms Sheamali Wickramasinghe, Managing Director of CBL.
