Batticaloa attempts to promote its assets to investors

The first ever international trade fair – BITE 2011 (Batticaloa International Trade Exhibition) will be held from 7 to 9 October 2011 at the Webster Stadium – Batticaloa. But it appears that it is being conducted under difficult conditions because though the organizers expect a large number of industrialists, service providers and businessmen to attend, accommodation in Batticaloa is a problem as there are only a few hotels.

When this matter was raised by a member of the audience at a press briefing held in Colombo last week to launch BITE 2011, the organizers indicated that accommodation would not be a problem since accommodation is available in places like Pasikudah.

The same member of the audience countered saying that travelling from Pasikudah was time consuming. BITE 2011 is organized by Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services along with the Batticaloa District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the National Enterprise Development Authority with the objective of further improving the living standards of the people in the district by introducing modern technology.

Some of the reasons adduced by the organizers to participate in this exhibition are: a potential market with unlimited scope for development; new partnerships and business opportunities could be established; opportunity to analyze the upcoming markets; opportunity to interact with private and public sector as this would the comprehensive and focused exhibition in the East.
