‘Dream Team’ back in the saddle

Popular band ‘Dream Team’ has emerged again in the music scene after a lapse of four years silence.
Dream Team, which came into limelight in late eighties and hit the top in the music scene in the 90’s with its star attraction Ayesha Gunesekera and her talented band wagon. Later the band has shifted its interests in overseas and moved to Middle East in early 2001.

After disbanding somewhere in 2007, the members have moved their own solo careers. But with the initiative of former and longstanding member Asela Fernando the band has surfaced again in May this year. It pushed to a fabulous start with its new contract with a Down South hotel and the members are hard at their work to get back their lost glory. The new lineup comprises of Asela Fernando, Ashendra Fernando, Ruwan Sabarathnam, Samanmali Fernando and Lalith Dias.

‘We have already started with a new contract, but looking for more work in the city’ Asela said. The band is capable of catering to any audiences and according to Asela, the boys are veryversatile with any kind of music.

“ we are catering to all kind of music lovers including current chart toppers of 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music. ‘We play lot of Sri Lankan songs and bailas for the gigs, weddings and other functions’ he said.

Oshadie’s ‘Spirit Within’

Young Oshadie Senanayake’s second photographic exhibition ‘Spirit Within’ will be held on July 22 from 11 am to 7 pm at the Namel-Malanie Punchi theatre, Borella.

This is following the success of his maiden exhibition held at Sri Lanka International School in Muscat, Oman where he received rave reviews for his rare talent despite undergoing a hearing impairment.
Eighteen-year-old Oshadie awaiting his London O/Level examination results is hardly deterred by his physical ailment and his determination has driven him to excel in the field of photography. His maiden exhibition was viewed by his teachers, other Sri Lankans and a large number of foreigners living in Oman. The 64-photograph exhibition not only drew a big crowd, but also showcased a young boy’s silent yet meaningful journey, which he has managed to capture through the lens.

Oshadie has also earned recognition as the most talented young photographer in the community earning praise and respect from the young and old alike.

“We identified his ability when he was just two and so presented him with a good camera, quite early on. Not only school activities, but Oshadie has also covered events, which have managed to find its way in local newspapers,” Kumari Senanayake, his mother said. Oshadie, who has just appeared for his London exams, has a collection of more than 6000 photographs. Oshadie is an old boy of Mahanama College, Colombo-3.
