Prestigious NU-School of Design enters South Asia

NU School of Design is present in South Asia through Academy of Design- Sri Lanka.
Creative based industries such as professional designing are rapidly growing in post-war Sri Lanka. If this growth is to be on par with the international creative movements, it's important to produce designers whose knowledge and skill are globally competitive. Therefore, it's crucial to provide internationally accepted education curricula and educational qualifications for Sri Lanka's young designers. In this light, Northumbria University School of Design's presence in Colombo through the Academy of Design is not only timely but also groundbreaking and necessary.

Northumbria University, School of Design - UK, is one of the most reputed design academia in Europe. It is rated as one of the top 5 design schools in the entire Europe by the prestigious Business Week Magazine. NU-School of Design has been hitting headlines in the UK Observer, Drapers magazine, New Designer, Elle and New York Times owing to its superior education, modern campus facilities and the astounding alumni records. Northumbria's School of Design research was also recognised by a number of successful bids including the Healthcare Technology Development Project. It also gives back through its design expertise by associating in craft development and innovative enterprise projects in Africa and India. Northumbria School of Design is now present in South Asia at the Academy of Design, in Sri Lanka for the benefit of all design students of the region.

Karen MacLeod, the British Fashion Designer -the Principal of AOD, said "We are delighted to have the Northumbria University School of Design as it provides a top notch degree to our undergraduates. This is very important for a country like Sri Lanka where the creative industries are expanding and becoming increasingly significant for the economy". MacLeod went on to elaborate that AOD would be the only institution in South Asia offering such a degree from Northumbria, thus opening the campus to South Asian students and offering them the best of design learning from UK, hailed as the creative hub of the world.
