20th Rotaract District Conference ends on a high

Rotaract is the youth arm of Rotary International, which is one of the largest service organisations in the world. Consisting of professional men and women, from various areas of the community belonging to the age group of 18-30. We foster leadership and responsible citizenship, encouraging high ethical standards through avenues ranging from community service to professional development.

The 20th Rotaract District Conference was held last month. The conference was hosted by three clubs belonging to the Mid Town Family, namely the Rotarct Clubs of Midtown, Spectrum Institute and Achievers Lanka. This event took place at the Empire Ballroom of the Mount Lavinia Hotel.

The Conference commenced on a Sunday Morning, where the District Governor PHF Rotarian Imthiaz Ismail presided as Chief Guest at the morning session and the Key Note speaker was Kavinga De Zoysa. Both dignitaries spoke on youth, values and the importance of the Conference theme ‘Live, Love and Share’. The Afternoon session started off with the entrance of the Chief Guest District Governor elect Gihan Siribaddana and the key note speaker - Ravi Edirisingha.

The new District Rotaract Representative for the Rotaract year 2011/2012 was officially pronounced by the current DRR Jagetheesan Pirisanth. The DRR elect Subramanium Sudakaran then addressed the gathering with his vision for the forthcoming year. The event was attended by approximately 200 Rotarctors from as far as Jaffna and Batticaloa. The 20th Rotaract District Conference was chaired by Rtr. Rameez Zubair, Rtr. Shafraz Saleem and Rtr. Krishan Balaji
