Soul Sounds will ring out in Kandy tonight

The internationally acclaimed all-female choir the Soul Sounds will return to Kandy today, May Day with a medley of delightful new songs with which they hope to enchant the audience. “We have put together an exciting new repertoire of contemporary music which will delight you,” promised Director Soundarie David Rodrigo.

While the mix of gospel, Broadway and Sri Lankan folksongs songs for which they are well known have not been totally set aside, a number of entirely new songs, with a contemporary flavour, have been chosen for their May Day concert.

Winners of many international competitions, the Soul Sounds have delighted audiences across the world with their wide repertoire of songs.

Under the guidance of their Director Soundarie David Rodrigo (herself a renowned musician) and Artistic Director Jerome de Silva, they have also released two choral albums on CD, the most recent in 2010.

Regular performers in Sri Lanka, the Soul Sounds have also performed in Australia, Austria, France, China, India, Kuwait, Malaysia and the USA. Audiences in the hill capital will be assured of an evening of sheer pleasure on May 1.

The concert will be held at the Hindu Cultural Hall, Peradeniya Road at 6 p.m. It is organized jointly by the Inner Wheel Club of Kandy and the Zonta Club of Kandy, both women’s organizations devoted to supporting poor women in the hill country. For tickets and more information – contact R. The artists who will be exhibiting their work are Ayub Cader, Hafsah Cader, Aloka Chandrasena, Mumina Irfan, Zainab Irfan, Ravish Fernando, Anoma Fernando, Zeyana Haniffa, Salaf Tegal, Asma Shafeek, Namali Silva and Suchitra Colonne. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Prithipura Children’s Home.
