The year ahead

Astrologically Sri Lanka is under Aquarius. Consequently Lagna Lord Saturn will be in transit in the eighth house in Virgo throughout the year. In a horoscope the eighth house is not fortunate. The deployment of Saturn in the eighth house is the thrust of an “Erashtakaya” which is malignant or “ill considered”.

In the horoscope of a country, its people, their housing, land and other immovable properties and the opposition are represented by the fourth house.

The tenth house represents the government, its leader and the country’s popularity etc. Jupiter which represents the second and 11th houses while in motion in Pisces moves towards Aries in May. Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Kethu are planets that move a long time. Therefore their effects are important.

When Saturn is in the country’s horoscope's eighth house in “Erashtakaya” style, the country’s social, economic and health sectors are beset with problems; excessive rains, drought, could occur affecting agriculture and property.

In the months from January to June, highway robberies, murders would be common. Rahu and Kethu in the fourth and tenth houses, in the Erashtaka horoscope moving and other planets in the fourth and 12th houses cause economic and health related problems. Resources are damaged and even destroyed and the administration of the country could be affected by the transmission of Rahu in June.
The government would be affected by local and foreign influences. Although Jupiter goes through the seventh house the financial situation does not improve very much.

However, there is a slight improvement in transport and communications. From May, Jupiter moving towards Mars has unsettling effects on the educational sector, being unfavourable for intellectuals. The ill-effects of other planets on Aquarius might create trouble in the country. In November, Saturn might be of help to Aquarius in controlling the situation.
