Support staff will remain the same sans Bayliss
By S.R. Pathiravithana

With the World Cup beaming around the corner along with the parting of ways of incumbent coach Trevor Bayliss, the Lankan hierarchy is on the prowl looking for some one to take over the reins of its cricket destiny.

Stuart Law

A while ago Bayliss made it clear that he would remain with the Lankan squad up to the 2011 World Cup which will be played on their own back yard and would bid adieu just to be with his kith and kin, something that he had not done for a while.

It is reported that the SLC top officials had made contacts with some of their former staff like Australian Tom Moody and Englishman Trevor Penny, but nothing firm has surfaced as yet.

An SLC insider confiding with the Sunday Times saying, “Top officials may have had some unofficial discussions with certain individuals since the notice served by Bayliss, but there has been nothing done at serious discussion level as yet. At the same time incumbent Assistant Coach and Batting Coach Stuart Law, Physio Tommy Simsek, Trainer Jade Roberts would remain along with the Lankans with the other local support staff of Masseur Lal Thamal, Fast Bowling Coach – Champaka Ramanayake, Spin Bowling and Fielding Coach Ruwan Kalpage, along with Computer Analyst Sanath Jayasundera.”

When asked as to how would former national coach Roy Dias would fit into the SLC machinery the SLC spokesman said: “We have had a few discussions with Roy Dias recently. But, nothing definite has surfaced. Yes, we would like him to begin with a junior squad initially as he has not been with the system for sometime and then we may take a closer look at him for bigger responsibilities, but, it has to take its own time course”.
