3 more arrests in ransom case

Three Army corporals were arrested this week over the abduction of a Colombo businessman and the extortion of a Rs. 2 million ransom.

The three men, who were attached to an Army camp in Vavuniya, were arrested in Kurunegala, according to police sources at the Colombo Crime Division. Earlier, a corporal and two soldiers were arrested soon after they collected the ransom money at a private hospital in Colombo.

The businessman, who owns a jewellery shop and operates a money changing centre, was abducted in Green Lane, Kotahena, last month.
