John Keells favourites for Merc Rugby 7s

Thirty five teams have so far confirmed participation for the Dialog sponsored, 40th Mercantile Rugby “Sevens” to be held on October 29, 30 and 31 at the CR & FC Grounds, Longdon Place.
A notable absentee are the 2008 and 2009 winner, Emjay International.

Hatton National Bank, nine times winner of the “Cup” will be also an absentee this year. HNB last emerged champions in 2002. John Keells who has the highest number of “Cup” wins (10) after 39 tournaments will now go out as the favourites to regain the “Cup” after 1999. They were the runners-up in 2009

The other four teams in the “Cup” competition are: Janashakthi Group (2009 “Plate” winner) MAS Holdings, Access Group (making a come back after 2001) and Commercial Bank. Last year, Suntel won the “Bowl” and debutants Ad-Guru won the “Shield”.

Entries close on Monday, October 18 at 3.00 pm with Shanaka Fernando, Assistant Secretary, MRFA, C/o, Metropolitan Communications (Mobile 0712/302311)

The draw for the groupings will be take place on Tuesday, October 26 at 6.00 pm at the CR & FC old pavilion.
