Sri Lanka’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards in September

The 15th annual Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, organised by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), in association with its 56 member chambers and associations, was launched on September 20, the FCCISL said this week.

The award is staged at two levels - provincial and national. Provincial awards will comprise 9 gold awards for the nine provinces, 36 silver awards, comprising four awards each for the nine provinces, in the small, medium, large and extra large categories. Similarly, there will be 2 bronze awards each in the four categories and therefore a total of 72 bronze awards. The total number of provincial awards will be 117, the statement said.

At the national awards, there will be an overall platinum award winner followed by 4 gold awards, 8 silver awards and 12 bronze awards, for a total of 25 awards. The contestant enterprises have been grouped into four categories – the small category covering investments from Rs. 1 million to 2 million, the medium category for investments of Rs. 2 million to Rs 20 million, the large category for investments between Rs. 20 million and Rs 50 million and the extra large category for investments of over Rs. 50 million. The appropriate category of the enterprise will be determined by taking into account the total assets of the last financial year.

There are also two special award categories, the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and the Young Entrepreneur of the Year. FCCISL has been successful in attracting all business sectors – agriculture, services, industry and trading, encompassing all 25 districts in the nine provinces, said the chamber.
The event has independent processes of judging by professionals and experts, nominated from the state and private sector.
