SLT Directory on Mobile WAP

Sri Lanka’s mobile phone users numbering around 15 million have been given access to Rainbow pages telephone directory information via the revolutionary Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). National Directory publisher SLT Publications (Pvt.) Ltd, widely known as Rainbow Pages, has developed a comprehensive diversified and nationally accepted data base using many years of experience in publishing commercial and residential directories, and this information is now accessible through WAP for mobile users, said Malraj Balapitiya, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLT Publications (Pvt.) Ltd.
He said that this source of information makes directory information accessible from any place at anytime and paves the way to make life easy and convenient for the public.

It has brought about revolutionary changes in the lifestyles of people resulting in decision making breakthroughs and advances in business communication, he added. WAP is a browser developed to access information through mobiles which is similar to surfing the Internet through computers. Mr. Balapitiya noted that the new service provides socially valuable information such as details of fuel sheds, current films, dramas, restaurants, food recipes and shopping information, etc in addition to directory data.

Basic information like government organizations, emergency numbers, and telephone numbers for schools, boards, hospitals, garages, etc is also available, he said. This service is now available to all mobile service providers, such as Mobitel, Dialog, Etisalat, Airtell and Hutch. "This could be accessed via www.rainbowpages.mobi,” he said.
