Wettimuny to meet Niyarepola in the final

Nimal Wettimuny will meet Mangala Niyarepola in the RCGC championship golf final today after they won easily in the semi-finals at the Ridgeways course yesterday.

Wettimuny beat former fellow cricketer Nirmal Hettiarachchi in one semi-final on the 16th hole 3 and 2. Wettimuny played consistently well in the afternoon all round in cooler climes. He played well in the fairways and greens to finish on the 16th hole.Niyarepola also played well to beat Dhanika de Silva on the 16th hole 3 and 2 having played well all round the course.

Earlier, Wettimuny had a tough match against Bandula Weerasinghe to win on the 19th hole in the quarter-final. Niyarepola also had a tough match against Sanjiv Vairavanathan 1 up in the quarter-finals.

Saakya Ukwatte beat Wendars Sheih 3 and 2 in one semi-final while Danika Amarasinghe beat Tusith Wijesinghe in the other semi-final in the Silver Division. Ukwatte will play against Wijesinghe in the final this afternoon.

Yemindra Udalagama was up against some stiff competition from Ifthika Ahamed before winning 2 up in one semi-final in the Bronze division. Sumeth Wijesinghe played well to beat Ravi Gooneratne 3 and 2 to enter the final in this division.Udalagama and Wijesinghe will play in the final in the afternoon.The Masters division will see Ken Sellayah do battle with Dr. H. Boralessa in the final.

Boralessa defeated Kumar Boralessa 4 up in one semi-final while Sellayah was stretched to the 19th hole by P.B. Kalugalagedera.

Ladies Captain Jackie Diasz took the ladies title in the RCGC club championship beating Anouk Chitty in a closely contested final at the Ridgeways course recently.Diasz won 1 up against Chitty who also played well.Sharman Perera won the Bronze division when she beat H.H. Lee in the final 2 up.
