Sri Lanka leaps ahead in travel navigation with 'Sala ProSat' GPS device

Boon for consumers and tourism sector

Sala Geo Information Systems Pvt Ltd (Sala GIS) recently announced the launch of 'Sala ProSat', Sri Lanka's first ever GPS Navigation System.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a US space-based radio navigation system that provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to civilian users on a continuous worldwide basis.
GPS provides accurate location and time information for an unlimited number of people in all weather, day and night, anywhere in the world. A GPS receiver calculates its position by precisely timing the signals sent by the GPS satellites high above the Earth.

Sala GIS chairman Chinthaka Wijewickrama said: "Our main aim is to take advantage of Sri Lanka's post-war economic boom including the projected massive development in the tourism sector. We are confident that the introduction of this GPS Navigation System will not only be of immense benefit to a very large cross section of users, but will be a national asset and greatly enhance the country's image in the region."

Outlining some of the advantages and benefits, Sri Lanka could achieve by using the 'Sala ProSat' GPS Navigation System, Mr Wijewickrama said that it helps one find and navigate any address in Sri Lanka. It also provides turn by turn guidance for travelling to any place along a shortest or fastest route. The user will thus save fuel and time to a greater extent and thereby an overall saving of national resources.
Main features of Sala ProSat GPS Navigation System:

Find and navigate to any address in Sri Lanka, See your current location instantly, Turn-by-turn voice-guided directions to your destination, More than 100,00 important landmarks and points of interests (fuel stations, ATMs, banks, hospital, hotels, parks, police station etc.), Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), Alternative re-routing if you miss a turn, Alternative route calculating options to avoid heavily congested roads, Track recording, Dynamic search options-By Address/petrol sheds/hospitals, Additional features of the device, User-friendly touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity, Mp3 player, Movie player, Photo viewer and FM transmitter.
