NCP in 78 run win

North Central Province scored a comprehensive 78 run win over Central Province in their under 21 tournament match played at the Pallekele Stadium. NCP's total of 191 was built round a stroke-filled 70 by Maliyadeva opener Nimna Karunarathne. Wimaranga Perera and Dasun Madumal also Chipped in. Spinners Palihakkara (the skipper), Jayasundera and Wanniarachchi accounted for the wickets.

Four CP batsmen entered double figures, with Kasun Ekanayake top-scoring with 36. Day earlier at the same venue, the Central Province side was humiliated by a strong Western Province term by 200 runs. This must be some kind of record!

All's not well with Cricket in Kandy and the Central Province. Selections seem to be done in accordance with certain compulsions. Players from the Kegalle District hardly get a look in. NCP 191 (Nimna Karunaratne 70, Vimanga Perera 37, Dasun Madumal 26, Akila Jayasundara 3-40, Heshan Wanniarachchi 3-44 Sahan Palihakkara 4-36),

CP 113 (Hiran Wickremasekera 20, Dilan Gangoda 21, Kasun Ekanayake 36, Sahan Palihakkara 16, N. Alwis 2-25, Dasun Madumal 2-22. A.K.
