Schools battle for ‘Business Cup 2010’

The Business Cup, initiated by the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya is held every year with a view of giving its undergraduates a hands on experience on planning and implementing a major project under the subject "Marketing and Entrepreneurial Skills." This year's competition will be held at the University premises on July 12. Media coverage will be provided by Sunday Times, Derana TV and Derana FM.

Business Cup is a table quiz that poses different types of business related questions to students of schools to answer jointly. The questions are asked in English but translated into Sinhala and Tamil languages so that anybody can answer them in any language. Therefore, there is no language barrier and the competition focuses mainly on the student's knowledge about the business environment, creativity and team working capabilities.

In addition to questions, there would be innovative team working exercises too. The winning school will receive the challenge shield called "The Business Cup" and the 2nd and 3rd places also will receive trophies. All participating schools will receive a special certificate of participation.

It is a different kind of quiz programme and students as well as the public show lot of interest. As a result, this event has become a major event in the Marketing Department of the University of Kelaniya.
Most of the sponsors join hands with the University to make it a success not only for the wide publicity they get but also for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) they have in helping a national university.
Organisers can be contacted by calling 071 5331523, 077 869590, 077 3813633 or sending an email to isbc10@gmail.com

Organisers say there are few more sponsorships available and the benefit package can be requested by calling or sending an email to the organisers. Sponsors are allowed to suggest questions to be included in the programme and also to be in the panel of judges so that it practically becomes a joint activity of the university and the private sector.

The Department of Marketing has a vision to make this "The Business Quiz Program of Sri Lanka" and more than 50 schools have already confirmed their participation and only 25 more schools can be accommodated to the event this time. Hence the orginisers request schools to call and register and get more details about the programme as early as possible.
