Strokes of (Sur) Realism

Dutch painter Laurens whose style is strongly influenced by Salvador Dali and stimulated by images found within the media presents an exhibition of his work at the Alliance francaise de Kandy titled (Sur) Realism from June 19 to 25.

Born in Delft, Holland, Laurens has been a frequent visitor to Sri Lanka since 1977 and has been living here in recent years. As a child, he displayed a strong artistic talent but did not pursue any formal art training. He quickly became entrenched in the interior design business producing hand drawn plans for private clients, one of whom was the US Ambassador in The Hague, Holland.

After working for 35 years, he took the decision to retire and revisit his earlier passion, oil painting and now works entirely in oil on canvas with a noticeable preference for painting which depicts the human form, including portraits.
