Spiritual Festival at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour

The "Spiritual Festival" conducted under the umbrella of the Ministry of Peace will be held next Sunday, June 13 at 10.30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha (adjoining the BMICH), Colombo 7.

Inspirational music, the Word of God and prayer for the individual needs of the congregation will be part of the service. The speaker and minister at this service, which is open to all, will be Dr. Vijaya Corea.

Familian Dazzle 75

The Past Pupils' Association of Holy Family Convent, Dehiwela will host 'Familian Dazzle 75', a dinner-dance to be held at Ramada (former Holiday Inn) on Saturday, June 12 from 9 p.m. onwards. The event will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its alma mater.

Bands Kings & Anno Domini (AD) will be in attendance and there will prizes and surprises from an array of competitions. Mobitel is the main sponsor for this event.

Cinnamon Lakeside going Russian

This month, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo marks the National Day of Russia -June 12, with a fiesta of Russian cuisine at The Dining Room. The dinner buffet, priced at Rs.1,400 + + +, will be on from 7-11 p.m. from June7-13.

Also coinciding with this is an authentic taste of Russian culture at the lounge. Traditional Russian dancers have been flown in courtesy Etihad Airways. Also present will be the Folk Academic Choir of Slavic Tunes from Moscow to perform traditional song and dance.

The Russian festival is organised by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, in collaboration with the Embassy of Russia and the Russian Cultural Centre in Colombo and is sponsored by Etihad Airways.

YWCA coffee morning

June Rendezvous - a coffee morning for ladies organized by the Y W C A of Sri Lanka will be held on June 19 at No.7, Rotunda Gardens, Colombo 3.

The organizers have lined up an interesting programme - a demonstration of floral arrangements by Sunitha Wijepala (trained in Japan), a cookery demonstration of a set French Menu by Lloyd Opatha (Consultant Chef Hotel Galadari) and in addition many trade stalls, free snacks and a lucky dip. Tickets are available at the Y W C A office and at the door.

The event is scheduled to begin at 8.30 a.m.

Events album

The first copy of "Tea and Me", a collection of poems and prose by Chanima Wijebandara was presented to Chief Justice Ashoka de Silva at his official chambers on May 21. This book has been printed under the patronage and sponsorship of the National Library and Documentation Services Board and published by Stamford Lake Publishers.

The students of the Sri Lankan School in Doha are currently in the process of putting together their debut performance, a recreation of the fairytale The Beauty and the Beast.

The cast, known as the Theatre Circle of SIS consists of both Primary and Secondary students who will showcase their talents prior to the end of the school term this year. Scheduled to be held this month, the play will be performed at the Doha Cinema in Qatar.

Tribute to male dancers

Tony Fernandez Prasanna Rupathilake
'East to West' a tribute to the male dancers of Sri Lanka will see well known names like Tony Fernandez, Kevin Nugara, Prasanna Rupathilake, Mohan Sudusinghe and Geeth Premachandra tread the same stage, presenting their different genres of dance. The show organised by the Lak Uruma Arts Foundation will be held on June 11 at 7 p.m. at the Lionel Wendt theatre.
