Healing hands of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Reconnections

Rotaract is a worldwide organization of potential business and professional leaders that provide humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.

' Heal' a Health camp organized by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Reconnections was held on October 31 2009 in Gampaha Alawala to provide health care to those in need. The venue chosen for this project was the Alawala Maha Vidyalaya and the main sponsor was Sri Lanka Telecom. With approximately 1200 patients receiving treatment from this venture, the project was deemed to be great success.
The camp was carried out by a medical team of 42 led by Dr. Lakshman Weerasena. Treatment was provided to the people of the area who flocked in numbers to receive treatment for their various ailments. The following health care was available at the camp.

  • OPD(General),
  • Pediatric
  • ENT
  • Blood Glucose Testing
  • Ayurvedic treatment

A separate eye camp set up by The Eye Care Foundation and led by Ms. Saumya Fernando, stepped in and provided their services to the large crowd that had gathered.

This was the maiden project of the newly chartered Rotaract club of Colombo Reconnections. It was spearheaded by the Club's dynamic president, Thiruni Ratnavibushana and her very capable team with particular support from the project chairpersons Chanu Dissanayake and Reyan Wijenarayana,.

Although this is the first project carried out by these enthusiastic individuals, we can be sure to see more of them in time to come!
