“We are not here to certify accounts. If the Attorney General says that the SLRFU Accounts of the 2008 period are correct, that is fine. We are here to administer the game and see that it is properly done,” said Kiran Atapattu the Secretary/Treasurer of the Rugby Interim Committee when contacted regarding the Auditor General’s report clearing the SLRFU of mismanagement in the 2008 period which was sent to the Sunday Times.

The long awaited AGM of the SLRFU is now scheduled to be held on February 27.

Meanwhile the Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge replying to a question on the Attorney General’s Report exonerating former President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union Nimal Lewke of any financial mismanagement stated that all arrangements to holding the Rugby Union AGM is now on schedule.

Nimal Lewke, the former President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union and Police rugby skipper is elated that the Auditor General’s report has cleared the SLRFU of mismanagement under his presidency in the 2008 period.

Lewke’s letter to the Sunday Times states that these allegations had caused him and his family great pain of mind and embarrassment and they had even effected his profession as a Senior DIG who was serving in the war front against the LTTE, which is now over.

Quote from Auditor General’s report:

Proper accounting records have been maintained by the Sri Lanka Rugby Union for the Financial Year ended December 31, 2008, except the implication on re financial declarations mentioned 2.2. In my opinion the position of the Sri Lanka Rugby Union as at December 31, 2008 and the financial result and operations of Sri Lanka Rugby Union as at date sources is true and fair as financial statements and transaction have been carried out with Sri Lanka accounting standards.
