CIMA Spellmaster Season 2 Quarter Finals

Within a period of 31 days, 34 competitions held in 25 locations, CIMA Spellmaster Season 2 has reached the quarter finals and were conducted last week in the Southern and Western Provinces.
Students from Galle, Matara and Hambantota competed against each other at Rahula College Matara for 17 places to the semi final pool of 100. Students from 34 schools took part of which students from 13 schools qualified, namely:

G/Sacred Heart Convent, G/Sanghamitta College Galle, G/Southlands College, H/Tangalle Balika Vidyalaya, St. Mary's Convent Matara, St.Thomas' College Matara, Sujatha Vidyalaya Matara, Vidyaloka College Galle, H/Katuwana National School, H/Puwakdandawa Dhammapala Balika Vidyalaya, Mahinda College Galle, Sri Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya and St. Thomas' Girls' High School.

The schools that did exceptionally with 2 students qualifying for the semi finals were, Sacred Heart Convent, Sanghamitta College Galle, Southlands College and Mahinda College Galle.
The Western Province quarter finals took place at Muslim Ladies' College, where students from Colombo, Negombo, Kalutara and Gampaha faced each other for the 21 places available to the semi finals. The competition held in the morning had 10 students qualifying and the competition in the afternoon had 11 contestants succeeding. The competition held in the afternoon was intense when it came down to 2 contestants, Fathima IImthiyas from Naleem Hajiar Ladies's College and Nardhya Grero from Lyceum International School, battling it out for 1 more place to the semi finals.

They were neck-to-neck, with both contestants getting the 3 words thrown out to them in the "Best of 3" correct. However, Fathima fumbled when spelling the word 'choreography' giving a very excited Nardhya the upper hand spelling the word 'chrysalis' spot on making her the 3rd contestant from Lyceum International School to qualify. Gateway College Colombo did brilliantly yet again with all 5 students flying through to the next level of the competition. Other schools that had students qualifying were, Ave Maria Convent Negombo, Burhani Serendib School, St.Peter's College, St.Benedict's College, Belvoir College International, Convent of our Lady of Victories, Crescent Girls' School, Kingston College International, Royal College, St.Joseph's College, St.Paul's Balika Maha Vidyalaya Kelaniya, and Naleem Hajiar Ladies College Kalutara.
