The 11th SAF Games will go ahead as scheduled in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 29 next year, according to Sri Lankan IOC Chief Hemasiri Fernando who was a part of the South Asian Sports Federation.

One of the notable events in next year’s games will be the T20 Cricket Tournament that will be a part of the events. According to reliable sources Sri Lanka will be represented by the Sri Lankan Youth team led by Ashan Priyanjan.

Talking to the Sunday Times, Hemasiri Fernando said Sri Lanka failed in its bid to add more events to the swimming discipline and women’s volleyball where Sri Lanka won the Silver at the last meet.

Besides this three events – basketball, golf and hand ball – will be additional events at this year’s games.
The IOC is also making plans to charter their own flight for these games as they are expecting to send a contingent of over 350 people which includes also officials. Meanwhile the medical tests for the participating athletes organized by the IOC have been stopped on an order by the Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge. The Sports Minister took this decision after the head of the Sports Ministry Medical Unit Dr. Geethanjali Mendis had pointed out to the Minister the Sports Ministry Medical Unit is the only organization that is eligible to hold such medical tests on athletes.

During the last games Sri Lanka took third place winning 37 gold medals whilst taking part in 21 events (13 male and 8 female).
