Which Customs Union?

Right of reply

Drawing attention to our last week’s front page news item headlined "Polls Commissioner Cautions President", Customs officer Vipula Minuwanpitiya has sent the following response.

“Generally Assistant Superintendents of Customs are called Customs Officers and their sole representative body is ‘the Customs Officers Union’.

Assistant Superintendents form the work force of the Sri Lanka Customs and none of our officers have any relationship with the All Ceylon Customs Service Union that has mustered only a handful of membership from other categories.

News Editor’s note: Our reference was not to the Assistant Superintendents of Customs who are largely represented by the Customs Officers Union. However, we understand that there are a few Assistant Superintendents also in the All Ceylon Customs Services Union.
