‘Dreams’ return to town

The theatrical dreams of award winning playwright Dhananjaya Karunaratne ‘Sihina Rangahala’ (Theatre of Dreams) will go on board at Lionel Wendt theatre on November 29.

The collection of five, one-act plays include ‘Valentine Enakan’ (Waiting for Valentine-2001) played by Chandani Seneviratne and Susith Nishantha, ‘Chandrawathie Samaga Rathriyak’ (A Night with Chandrawathi-1995) played by Palitha Silva and Kawshalya Fernando, ‘Duwana un Dennek’ (Two People on Run- 2008) played by Chamal Ranasinghe and Dimithu Chinthaka, ‘Oba Sapekshai’ (You are Relative 1997 ) played by Madani Malwathtage and Sanath Wimalasiri and ‘Last Bus Eke Kathawa’ (The Story of the Last Bus-1999) played by Saumya Liyanage.

With an exhilarating performance by Saumya “Last Bus Eke Kathawa” is an inspirational play. An extraordinary play that built a close relationship between the audience and the actor, “Last Bus Eke Kathawa” has become popular in the English theatre as well with its translation by Ruwanthi de Chickera and played by Gihan de Chickera and it was also performed in a number of countries.

One line that binds all the five plays are that all of them centred on intimate and sensitive subjects and issues. The latest addition to the series ‘Duwana Un Dennek’ (Two People on the Run) is a tragi-comedy influenced by physical theatre has already been a very popular one act play.

Over the past few years Dhananjaya has been experimenting in search of a more proactive and sensitive style of theatre and ‘Sihina Rangahala’ was the result of it. Dhananjaya practices his theatre in both Sri Lanka and Australia.

All seats are box planned and tickets are available at Lionel Wendt theatre Office. Music for ‘Sihina Rangaha’ is by Kapila Poogalaarchchi and Jude Shirimal is the chief organizer of the play.
