Diabetes Walk, today

'Walk for Life 2009' a walk organized by the Diabetes Research Unit, Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine- Colombo and the Tharunyata Hetak youth organization will take place today at 7.30 a.m.
Dr. Chula Senaratne - Chief Medical Co-ordinator "Tharunyata Hetak" addressing the media about the Diabetes Walk 2009. Also in the picture are Dr. P. Katulanda, Consultant Endocrinologist,National Hospital and Brand Ambassadors for Diabetes Walk 2009, Sanath Jayasuriya, Akalanka Ganegama, Eraj Weeraratne and Natasha Jayasuriya.

The walk will commence at the Colombo Municipal Council Grounds and end at Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha. The walk which commemorates World Diabetes Day, aims to create awareness of the epidemic proportions of diabetes and help establish a research fund for diabetes in Sri Lanka, while paving the way for relationships with international institutions by serving as an annual event.

Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Iraj Weerarathne, Dushyanth Weeraman, Akalanka Ganegama, Sabeetha Perera, Natasha Jayasuriya, Roshan Ranawana, Chula Padmendra and Rozanne Dias will rally around the cause as elected ambassadors for diabetes in Sri Lanka.
